The Skaalar Exo-Skin brand of stab/trauma/ballistic flexible titanium plates and panels are unique and have been in use since 1994. We have 4 generations of flexible Exo-Skin products that address a variety of threats. Gen 1 addresses trauma and stabs and is widely used in law enforcement concealable vest, and the 6 x 8 size replaces almost all OEM trauma plate from other manufacturers. We use Titanium 64 or an equivalent alloy that easily handles stab attacks and reduces trauma by over 50% vs. textile trauma plates made of Kevlar or Spectra shield. The Gen 1 series also is great for upgrading your soft Military OTV panels to defeat extremely fast fragmentation above current military standards. In the picture below the Gen 1 series Skaalar Exo-Skin defeats a .40 cal 165 Gr. FMJ when used in conjunction with the soft armored vest. While not specifically rated for ballistics it does significantly effect the bullets trajectory, shape, and velocity prior to impacting the soft textile portion of your armor, which is usually comprised of Kevlar or Spectra Shield or both. We also sell a Gen 1+ and Gen 2+ product. The plus means that instead of being in conjunction with the vest, it is stand alone, for example: We would construct a Gen 1 Exo-Skin product with additional layers of ballistic fabric behind the titanium such that the flexible plate or panel will stop level 3-A threats by itself.
The Gen 2 is a bit thicker and is made of the same materials and is meant to upgrade a soft armored vest to defeat armor piercing pistol ammunition. Gen 2+ would also work by itself without the vest, although this is a less desired product because of the weight, and it is generally better to just use gen 2 as an upgrade. (we do not guarantee Gen 2 products unless they are used with our soft armored vests).
The Gen 3+ is now available, and defeats all the common military threats, M-80, AK_47 MSC, M855, and even the AK-47 API, and we make it in an ICW format so if you don't want to wear the larger rifle area coverage, and the weight associated with more rifle protection, you can take it out, and use your old 10 x 12 hard plates, although it's hard to believe anyone would do that. We have two divergent technologies that are non-infringing with the old dragon skin product; one is for level 3+ and takes advantage of the newest ceramic composite technology that uses "Flat" tiles, and a patent pending containment system. Uniform thickness makes the edges better too compared to a tapered discus tile. Our association with the Speyer process B4C makes our B4C armor work better than Ceradyne's Hot pressed B4C because the Speyer process allows for the ceramic to achieve 100% density as compared to only 95% using the old hot pressed method. We are achieving XSAPI performance flexibly at 7.5 Lbs/Sq.Ft. the very same weight as the rigid XSAPI plates, and although it's expensive, if you can have gapless coverage against the world's toughest threats at the same weight as the newest military hard plate, but with flexible panels, why wouldn't you?
The Gen 4 is available now but in limited quantities, and only for Special Forces, and is quite expensive, but we also have a 100% dense SiC4 version that is more in the reasonable price range, so check with us directly to design a vest for your unit.
